7.2.09 Grandview Wedding Katie & Tory
decor to the colors and the music. Â It truly was their day.
The bridesmaid’s dresses were black (Katie wanted to make sure the girls would wear them again) with teal sashes that matched the table runners. Each table was named after a place special to Katie and Tory, with a little story or memory written on the back for added significance. The couple’s monogram was projected onto the dance floor with a gobo light, an extra special touch and the first time we’d done it.
Even Katie and Tory’s introductions were kicked up a notch. Katie’s cousin, Frank, introduced the bridal party with a personalized bit of info for each of them to “Bad Medicine” by Bon Jovi, before announcing the couple a’la movie trailer, “And now, starring the young lady who got proposed to in front of Cinderella’s Castle at Disney World…” to Guns ‘N Roses’ “Welcome To the Jungle.”

Then it was my privilege to weave in more of the couple’s story in the Love Letters they’d written for each other. Tory hoped he remembered to tell her she looked beautiful when they met at the end of the aisle, rather than flubbing the moment like he did when she got her new hair cut, “Can it grow back?” Katie reminisced about those times in their nine years together when she thought she loved Tory, only to realize each time that she loved him more now than she ever did then.
QUICK NOTE: Katie and Tory chose the Thursday before the July 4th weekend for their wedding. SMART CHOICE! It was an unbelievable, non-stop party that went until midnight…and they scapped up numerous discounts by picking a mid-week date.
Rock ruled the night, with the newlyweds lifted onto the shoulders of the groomsmen to “Don’t
Stop Believin” by Journey and then Tory and the Suspender Boys kicking into a surprise serenade for Katie of Bon Jovi’s “I’ll Be There For You.”
I loved the ending…one of those moments you couldn’t set up if you tried…with all the guests in a circle holding hands and singing, “American Pie,” then bursting into dancing across the floor as the tempo kicked in.
Katie and Tory’s wedding was amazing. I can’t wait to hear about their Mexican honeymoon!
